My art school in Burnaby, BC, where I teach art classes in person or online. Check out my currently running classes, or book a private lesson with me!
For programmers, librarians, or teachers interested in an artist visit - I'd love to hear from you.
I blog about teaching art and comics, and post lesson plans for teachers and other educators.

Are you looking for an artist to teach a workshop for your school or event? I've delivered art programs in schools and non-profit centres across the lower mainland, including:
Please contact me at janice@janiceliu.com with teaching inquiries. I'd be happy to work together to develop a program for either kids or adults!
"Janice is skillful at providing step-by-step instructions that are clear to follow and she successfully builds rapport with a variety of ages and audiences."

Here are some topics I've spoken and taught on before. I'm also happy to create a custom plan with you based on any lesson or themes you might want to tie in to.
I am booking for both in-person and online events.
1.5 hours. One of my most popular workshops - this is a drawing-heavy workshop that covers the basics of how to draw a manga / anime style face, and includes a systematic step-by-step of how to draw the proportions of a human body! Tailored to any age 6 and up.
A 2-4 hour workshop that can be spread out over a number of sessions. I've delivered this workshop at Burnaby Public Library, as well as online with North Vancouver Public Library! Covers the whole process of creating a 1-2 page comic story, from brainstorming to scriptwriting to artwork. Tailored to any age 6 and up.
A 1.5 - 2 hour session on drawing believable faces and capturing likeness. For Grades 4 and up. Also great for teens and adults!
A 1.5 - 2 hour session on colour mixing and basic painting skills, working from a photo. Participants will finish with a simple but cute painting - think plants, cake, etc. Special supplies and sink access required. For Grades 5 and up.
Combining creative writing with comics, this program engages kids in writing and speaking Chinese while creating their own cartoon characters and stories. I've run this program at Pocket Panda Chinese Learning Centre, as well as at the British School of Guangzhou with children of various linguistic backgrounds!
I am a Mandarin and Cantonese speaker and can write in simplified Chinese. (though I'm a bit rusty and might need your help with writing certain words :P)
